FOR A CHANGE OF PACE, TRY AUTO RACING

A number of years ago, Josh was invited to help out a friend take care of his race car and attend the races. Well, he was hooked. That friend was Bill Hall of Wilmington and the car was a Formula V. Bill moved to Tennessee and now Josh crews for Hank Bilek, who drives a Formula 500.

Here is a picture of Josh on the grid with Bill's Formula V. The V is basically a Volkswagon power plant put into a racing frame. The tires, engine, transmission, and front suspension are original Volkswagon Beetle equipment. It may not sound impressive, but these cars do turn over 100mph in the straights!

Here is a picture of Hank in the 500 with his father and friend standing behind him. He was just about to start a race at Kershaw, SC. This car utilizes a 500cc Rotax engine from snowmobiles for a power plant, but the car itself is all race car. The car weighs less than the V and sports a bit more horsepower, making it one of the faster cars on the track. Particularly with Hank at the controls.

Of course, after the race there is always lots of talk about what went wrong, why you spun out, and how next time you'll be faster. All completely believable.......
